A grand pottery market will be hosted along the serene approach to Kashihara Jingu Shrine in Kashihara City, Nara Prefecture. 12 esteemed pottery merchants will gather to exhibit and sell over 500,000 pieces sourced directly from kilns nationwide. The extensive collection ranges from beautiful everyday tableware and premium vessels crafted for ryotei (high-end traditional Japanese restaurants) to fine arts, traditional crafts, and even exceptional masterpieces created by designated Living National Treasures.
The event will run from Saturday, April 25th, to Monday, May 4th (a national holiday), and will be held rain or shine.
You will find a superb selection of regional ceramics that enjoy great popularity overseas, including Arita-yaki (Arita ware), Hasami-yaki (Hasami ware), and Kutani-yaki (Kutani ware).
For those visiting Nara during this time, this event presents a truly wonderful shopping experience that we highly recommend adding to your itinerary.
