Asuka Village was inscribed as a World Heritage site in July 2026. I’d like to introduce what I consider the true appeal of Asuka.
Asuka is the site of Japan’s first capital — often referred to as “the birthplace of Japan” — and it attracts visitors from both Japan and overseas. While its profound history is remarkable, what I continually appreciate is the village’s slow, tranquil atmosphere: the rustle of trees, birdsong, and a refreshing breeze.
It’s a place to step away from everyday bustle and unwind — a quietly luxurious experience.
This serene environment is sustained by landscape-protection measures and the dedication of local residents.
Asuka is governed by the unique “Asuka Low,” Japan’s only law specifically for preserving scenery.
The entire village is designated for historic landscape conservation, which has preserved the harmonious satoyama landscape where history and nature coexist.
Satoyama represents an intermediate zone between people and nature, and the maintenance of fields and farms is essential to keep it alive.
To convey Asuka’s appeal, we have launched a tour that includes interactions with local farmers and showcases the best of Asuka in a compact experience. Enjoy the mix of historical significance and regional agriculture.
